Minnesota Faces

I gave myself a simple assignment: Photograph 50 random strangers. The idea was to document what ordinary Minnesotans look like.

Sharing a few moments and collaborating—is an exhilarating exchange between subject and photographer. This series of photographs allowed me to catch a glimpse into the lives of people I would have never met, at least not without my camera in hand.

There was the WWII veteran who flew over Europe in a B-17 Flying Fortress. I met U.S. civil war reenactors, as well as veterans of foreign U.S. wars. I spent time with folks at a rural vintage farm equipment and threshing show, and I took portraits of two local Hispanic brothers that love to spend time and money on their “low-riders”. I ran into a German-American musician; watched sword fights of Norwegian vikings, learned about the lives of homeless people. What a privilege to meet so many perfect Minnesotan strangers.
